Buried Beneath - Rehearsals

Here are some various rehearsals that we recorded on a boom box in Tim's basement. That's where we rehearsed. I'll start with older rehearsals and work up to what ended up being our last rehearsal.

This first rehearsal is actually after Steve (guitar) had quit the band. We were practicing with a rhythm guitarist named Jim who had just joined and was going to be playing with us at an upcoming show in which we were opening for Cannibal Corpse. Jim wasn't the best guitarist, he was a bit sloppy, but he was all we had to work with at the time. This rehearsal also includes a song called "Cemetery Gates" which we eventually dropped and never recorded on any demo.

And here is another rehearsal from the same month with Jim on 2nd guitar. Not sure of the exact date but it's within the same week as the rehearsal above. This rehearsal includes "Cemetery Gates" and "Heavens Abandoned", two songs that we dropped and never recorded on any demo.

Now we jump ahead to 1994. On this rehearsal I am doing the guitar and keyboards. And we now had Eric in the band doing vocals. I don't hear a 2nd guitar so I'm guessing we rehearsed as a 4-piece, although at some point around this time we did have a guy named Randy on 2nd guitar. If he's at this rehearsal, you really can't hear his guitar.

Here we jump ahead to 1995. Now by this point Eric was out of the band and I had begun doing the vocals. You'll also hear keyboards which are performed by me, along with guitar. This was not easy. During keyboard parts I'd have to quickly mute my guitar and lean over to play the keyboard parts. On 2nd guitar was Greg Herman who had joined by this point and he was working out great. He'd stay with us til we split up and he became part of Night Conquers Day's original line-up. We were writing and working on some new long songs at this point, but the band was still learning them and we would fuck them up alot because Shane would forget parts of the songs. 2 of these songs eventually became the Night Conquers Day demo in October 1995.

And this is the last rehearsal recording I have. It ended up being our last rehearsal as Buried Beneath. Shane had told us he wanted to quit. We asked if he would do one more rehearsal with us with all the songs and with me on vocals and keyboards so we could use it as a promo and also as a tape to give to another drummer if we ever found one. He came out for the rehearsal, but he fucked up everything we did. He did nothing but whine and complain, and finally I flipped out and went off on him, calling him a pussywhipped retard. We actually spread this rehearsal around the tapetrading circuit as the "pussywhipped retard rehearsal tape" for a while. But Buried Beneath ended up splitting up shortly after this. At the end of the last song, after the fuck-up, an argument ensues, and if you turn the volume way up you might make some of it out. Too bad we weren't yelling right into the mic - otherwise you could hear it all better.

Now remember these are rehearsal tapes. They don't sound the greatest.But if you're a fan of Buried Beneath, you might enjoy hearing rehearsal versions of these songs, plus the 2 never-recorded songs that were left behind.

Buried Beneath did play live at least a dozen times locally. We opened for bands like Cannibal Corpse, Gorguts, Deicide and also shared the stage with many local bands like Disgorged, Lethargy, Contortion and Evisceration. Eventually maybe I'll burn a live show, but I don't think I have any soundboard tapes. They are just audio from a video recorder.
